Pyaz ka achaar (Onion Pickle)

Pickles have a very important role in Indian meals.It adds spice and flavour not only to our palate but to our lives as well.We all have tasted the grand ma’s mango pickle,the tangy lemon pickle,the red hot chilly pickle and the ready made mix veg pickle.Today I will share a finger licking recipe of very different Pyaz ka achaar.So here we go..


Onions 2

Raw Mango (peeled & grated) 2

Whole red chilly 2

Bay leaves 2

Asafoetida (heeng) 2 pinch

Red chilli powder 2 tablespoon

Salt 2 table spoon

Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

Saunf (aniseed)powder 2 tablespoon

Powdered Yellow Mustard seeds 2 tablespoon

Fenugreek seeds  1/2 tsp

Onion seeds (kalonji) 1 tsp

Mustard oil 1 1/2-2 cup


Peel the Onions…and slice them into wedges.

Press the grated raw mango gently by hand so as to remove excess water from it.

Mix onion and grated mango in a bowl.To this add the above mentioned spices.Now add oil to it.Mix well.

Transfer the mixture into a dried glass jar.Add more oil if required.(oil should float over the pickle mixture)

Close the lid tightly..and keep it in sun light for a day.

When done refrigerate the pickle and use when required.

Consume with in 10-15 days.

Serve with roti, paratha ,bread, dal chawal or simply lick it 😉
